At Blue Bear Self Storage, we want you to feel confident and informed about your storage arrangement. Our Rental Agreement (Licence) sets out the rules and responsibilities for using our containers, and while it may seem lengthy, here are the most notable terms you need to know:
1. What’s Included in Your Agreement
-
Licence Period:
Your storage agreement starts on the Start Date for an initial period of 4 weeks. It automatically renews every 4 weeks unless you or we terminate it according to the notice period specified on your Licence Form. -
Container and Goods:
- Container: The storage unit that we allocate for your use.
- Goods: Anything you choose to store in the container. You must either own these items or have permission from the owner to store them.
-
Access Hours and Passcode:
- Access Hours: The specific hours during which you are allowed to access your container (as detailed on your Licence Form).
- Passcode: A unique access code provided to you that allows entry to your container. It’s your responsibility to keep this code confidential.
2. Payment and Fees
-
Licence Fees:
The fee for your storage is based on a weekly rate specified on your Licence Form. You must pay these fees in advance on the Payment Date. -
Deposits:
- Fees Deposit: An upfront deposit (if applicable) to cover your Licence Fees and any other charges.
-
Key Deposit: A deposit for the keys to your container if required.
These deposits are refundable at the end of your agreement, minus any deductions for damage, breaches, or unpaid charges.
-
Prompt Payment:
It’s essential that you pay your fees on time. Failure to do so can result in additional interest charges, administrative fees, and may even lead to disabled access or, in extreme cases, the sale of your stored goods.
3. Access, Security, and Your Responsibilities
-
Secure Access:
Only you and any authorised persons (as approved by you) may access your container during the stated hours. Keeping your passcode secure is crucial to maintaining the safety of your stored items. -
No Exclusive Possession:
The agreement does not grant you a tenancy or the status of a landlord. We remain the owner of the container, and you are simply licensed to store your goods in it. -
Storage Restrictions:
Certain items are prohibited from being stored (e.g. perishable goods, hazardous materials, living creatures, etc.). Please refer to your full terms if you’re unsure what you can store.
4. Termination and Cancellation
-
Notice Period:
To end your agreement, you must log in to your customer portal and confirm your vacation. -
Cooling-Off Period:
If you’re a consumer who isn’t storing for business purposes, you have a 14-day cooling-off period after we confirm your order during which you can change your mind.
5. Liability, Insurance, and Data Protection
-
Liability:
Our liability for any loss or damage to your goods is limited (currently capped at £100 per event, unless you have opted for enhanced coverage with our StoreProtect plan). -
Insurance:
It is your responsibility to insure your stored goods for their full replacement value. You can either opt for our enhanced liability cover (StoreProtect) or arrange your own insurance. -
Data Protection:
We process your personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Your information is used for managing your account, processing payments, and ensuring the security of our services.
6. Additional Key Points
-
Notices:
All notices (e.g. changes to the agreement or termination requests) must be given via our portal, we cannot accept over the phone. -
Dispute Resolution:
Any disputes will be governed by English Law, and we encourage informal conciliation before taking any legal steps. -
Changes to the Agreement:
We may vary certain terms of the agreement from time to time. For any major changes (such as alterations to fees), you will be notified in writing at least 4 weeks in advance, giving you the right to terminate the agreement if you do not accept the changes.
